Maria Samarakou is professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and Director of the Applied Informatics Laboratory. She holds a BSc in Physics (1977), and a PhD in Simulation and Optimization of Energy Systems (1986) from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She was a researcher (1981-1982) at the Laboratoire d’Automatique et d’ Analyse des Systèmes (LAAS –Toulouse France) of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). She also serves as Research collaborator since 1982 at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has undertaken, since 1985, more than 20 National and European projects in research and technology development as coordinator/project manager or main researcher. She has published more than 150 papers in refereed scientific journal, proceedings of International and National conferences and chapters in books on topics in the field of simulation, optimization, expert systems, artificial intelligence and educational technology. She has more than 500 citations in scientific articles and she is Reviewer in various international scientific journals and congresses. Her research interests include the following scientific areas: Artificial intelligence, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Interactive Educational Environments, Design and implementation of educational software. He is reviewer of the peer-reviewed international scientific journals, since 2000 until today. She is member of scientific associations.
